Among all the small towns up for consideration, Kinsale was voted 2014’s #1 best tourism town at the Fáilte Ireland Tourism Awards. Westport won the best large town tourism award.
The large towns up for the award were Killarney, Kerry; Cobh, Cook; Westport, Mayo; and Kilkenny, Kilkenny. The other small towns that fell short were Ardmore, Waterford; Carrick on Shannon, Leitrim; Glengarriff, Cork; Kingsale, Cork; Lismore, Waterford; and Portmagee, Kerry.
What one will notice immediately upon entering Westport is that the town is very organized and compact. There is a lot to offer, as the locals are proud and energetic people used to tourists coming through. Located on the West Coast of Ireland, Westport is close to blue flag beaches along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Tourists come from all over the world to experience their popular restaurants and pubs. Other notable awards won by Westport were the Irish Tidy Towns Competition and Best Places to Live in Ireland.
Kinsale is a historic fishing town located on the South Coast of Ireland in Cork. The town is known as a popular resort town for tourists and locals. The town combines beautiful scenery and ocean ports with its small, narrow town-like feel at its core. Along the coast, tourists will notice the vast amounts of large yachts anchored to their massive port. Other leisure activities that this town has to offer are sea angling, golf, and art museums.
